3. “Fandango? I once knew a Sid Fandango from a video game… Any relation?” Shinzu blinked. He couldn’t sense a single hint of malice from the man. Not that he could anyway unless the sailor made his intentions painfully obvious. Still, from what he could gather, the man didn’t seem to pose any harm or threat. “S-Shinzu. Shinzu Hayashi.” Not wishing to antagonize the man and start a fight, Shinzu returned the gesture by grabbing onto the sailor’s hand and giving the limb a weak shake. This appeared to be a gesture of friendship.
“One of those guys is a cheater?” Shinzu huffed. There were two things in the world he just couldn’t stand. One, a guy who cheated in video games. Two, someone that didn’t realise that online games couldn’t be paused. Part of him almost wanted to shoot a glare at the accused. Sadly, lacking courage and the will to start a fight, Shinzu simply avoided eye contact with the match fixer and instead, ordered a simple beer from a glass bottle.
“W-Waaah! A gun!?” Shinzu almost dropped his freshly ordered booze. Panicking, he broke out into a sweat. Why was the sailor so calm? Was he actually a soldier and desensitized to the sight of firearms? Swallowing, Shinzu slid away from the sailor. He didn’t want to risk getting caught in the crossfire. Simultaneously, he glanced along the path between himself and the matchfixer. “Maybe I should help…” He swallowed as he tapped his index finger along the side of the bar table. A thin black line crawled downwards, along the bottom of the table and up the shooter’s leg. Slowly and carefully, the 'aura rope' remained out of sight by hugging the walls and slithering into the man’s clothing. By the time it had curled around the man’s arm, Shinzu mentally commanded a fanged maw to burst out from the tip of the tendril which then immediately bit down onto the match fixer’s gun wielding arm. A stain of blood immediately appeared on his sleeve near his bicep. With the mouth itself only being about the size of a coin, it wasn’t going to do much damage. However, bearing fangs and piranha-like speed, it did manage to tear off enough of a chunk of flesh to cause the man’s arm to pull back in pain.

#4. " Sid? That might have been me, I used to be quite competitive in fighting games a few years back" Mervyn said kinda ashamed he got found out, not that he did mind people knew he played video games it was just that he never expected to make much of an impact online. Merv took another sip of his drink starting to see how the man holding the gun was becoming quite anxious and started to shake a little. " Yep a cheater, one that only carries guns to impress people too, he's a matchfixer trying to earn money over the mind of the weak" Mervyn stated as he took a sip of his drink.
" Hey Shinzu, around now he should scream I really am going to shoot" Mervyn joked but to his surprise it seemed that someone had already planned out something. The man suddenly moved back the arm holding the gun in pain, which made him shoot out in panic. " Good job " Mervyn mentioned as he stood up with a smile and pat Shinzu on the back. He then readied his fist and landed it into the matchfixers stomach who then collapsed. " One seccond Shinzu I'll put the trash out " Mervyn joked as he slung the matchfixer over his shoulder after confiscating his gun, he then used his free hands to both grab one of the lackeys which he pulled with him over the ground "Guess I am not strong enough yet" he mumbled to himself, oh well this would suffice as training.

4. “Y-You’re THE legendary Sid?” Shinzu clapped his hands together in excitement. To find such a gaming legend in a place like this. Perhaps the old saying was true – never meet your heroes. Finding out that a pro of such calibre was actually a sailor was kind of… Strange. Surreal even. “That outfit… Is that how you pay your bills?” Shinzu, of course, wasn’t one to talk. He knew the struggles of keeping a roof over one’s head while maintaining an up-to-date collection of games. It certainly wasn’t a cheap hobby that’s for sure.
“H-He didn’t say anything…” Shinzu blinked. Was the man a mind reader? If so, he was a bad one at that. “Wouldn’t saying that out loud probably make him not say those words…?” The poor excuse for a marksman reeled back in pain. Meanwhile, Shinzu smiled at the pat on his back. He finally felt useful. “C-Careful… We don’t want to permanently injure him. It could ruin his career.” Was match fixing even a career? Regardless, Shinzu triggered his tendril to retreat from the man and slip out from the bottom of his trousers before returning to Shinzu and dissipating stealthily. He still hadn’t figured out if others could see his ability. Whatever the case, he didn’t want to draw any unnecessary attention to himself.
“W-Woah… Sailors are pretty tough. I’d help, but I’m prone to cramping…” Shinzu sipped on his beer as he watched the sailor lift one of the men and drag the others with one hand. Physically, he seemed quite imposing. A stark contrast to Shinzu’s frail and far more slender frame. “S-So… What are you doing here? How did you get into this mess?”

As the Sailor had explained he indeed was the one that Shinzu mentioned he was greeted by clapping which made him blush. As Merv brought the henchmen and the matchfixer to the door he opened it and threw them out, piling them on each other for fun. It was quite hard lifting humans especially since they were rather heavy but hey this could be counted as training. As Merv came back to Shinzu sipping beer and saying how he couldn't help due to a cramping issue Merv nodded " That must be rough, don't worry about it I think this man can walk on his own" He exlaimed pointing to the one that remained on the floor.
The man froze and stared at the two while hoping the giant sailor would have mercy on him. "Or can't you, I can carry you if you want" Mervyn said laughing as the man jumped up and was out of the bar within an instant. Mervyn sat down again and looked at Shinzu "Sorry for the interuption" He then scratched his head wondering how to answer the questions asked by the man who was sitting next to him. "Well I used to be a sailor, one day I will return to this but now I mostly fight, not that I really like it, but it should earn me enough to make my parents retire, the waters not a safe place anymore" Mervyn sighed, he did actually miss the sea. "What I am doing here? Just enjoying a few drinks, these people like the one ariving earlier don't like how they can't buy me, they want to fix the matches and earn all the betting money, ah well a sailor needs to be strong with all those mafiosos and pirates and scum trying to capitalize and stuff" Mervyn ranted on, hoping Shinzu could still follow.

5. Shinzu blinked as the men were piled on top of each other. Sailors clearly weren’t people to mess with. “Oh… So you fight for money with your psychic abilities?” Shinzu folded his arms. His abilities didn’t seem as cool as Mervyn’s. He definitely couldn’t utilize them in the middle of a battle either. Or could he? While conversing with the sailor, Shinzu focused on his aura. A strange warmth birthed itself inside of him. Carefully, he tried to maintain this warmth while holding a conversation with Mervyn. It was strenuous focusing on two things at once, but still. He knew it was a challenge he needed to overcome.
“People sure can be scummy… But wait, you seem pretty strong. Wouldn’t it have been far less effort and safer to just bet money on you winning rather than bribing you to lose? Given what I just saw, I’d feel pretty safe throwing down some money on you if I ever came to one of your fights.” Shinzu almost began panting. Such a long speech was draining while focusing on maintaining his aura. Luckily, by gritting his teeth together, he managed to hold that back and continued breathing through his nose. “How much do these fights make anyway? …My business isn’t as successful as it used to be, so I’m struggling to make ends meet. Speaking of which, this beer is on you r-right!?”

#6. "Psychic? me?" Mervyn muttered as he looked at Shinzu, he seemed to be focussing on something yet still trying to talk to him, did he have the same abilities as he had? did he train like he had as well? He still had nightmares of that training, day in and day out he'd stand there concentrating. getting hit by his trainer to see if the damage was reflecting. His idea for his power was a smart one according to his sensei, yet inperfected. it would have been perfect if he didn't get the damage himself either. Instead he just managed to surpress the pain, after all those years of torture one wouldn't feel as much pain anymore." That's what I told them, but whenever I tell them just to bet on me instead of trying to fix matches they want to shoot me like you saw earlier" Mervyn stated while scratching his head, quite confused yet iritated by the whole situation.
"Thank you, that means a lot, I trained a lot to be where I am now he said, so you have learned how to control your aura as well? Mervyn asked as he closed his eyes for a second and focussed his aura into his arm, he wanted to one day learn enchanting techniques to increase his punching powers, but for now it was manipulation. and later conjuration, making his own ship would be pretty cool, Mervyn chuckled as he had dreamed away for a seccond, his aura expanding tremendously as he forgot to control it, wondering if Shinzu had noticed anything. "Fighting can earn a lot of money, if I do five fights on a evening I can spent a month drinking while sleeping in a luxury hotel, it can be quite dangerous tho, I've had various people try to kill me, once I am strong enough I will go back to the arena. The thought of the arena and the losses he suffered there awakened a frustration in Mervyn, it awakened a strength in him, and without realising he crushed the glass of whiskey he was drinking from, "Atleast I finished the drink " Mervyn chuckled, "hey barman, can I have another one, don't worry I'll pay for the glass, and for the mans drinks tonight " Mervyn said hoping that would be enough to not get in trouble for crushing a glass.

6. "Oh... Apologies. You're not a Esper?" If the sailor didn't possess psychic powers, then how did he attempt at predicting what the matchfixer was about to say? Perhaps this was down to some other aura ability. Manipulation perhaps? Was the sailor planning on coercing the other man's actions? This was definetly a man that was better as a ally than a foe. "Say... What do you know about this aura stuff? When did you first notice yours?" Shinzu blinked. Completing Dark Souls 3 without a single death seemed supernatural enough. Now though... there was this sailor, his own abilities and that strange multicoloured man. Whatever happened to him anyway? Shinzy never got a chance to ask about the weirdo's strange finger powers.
"I only just started training today. My aura thingy awakened last night while I was playing Pokemon. I was about to complete the Nuzlocke challenge... but my battery ran dry. Before I could throw my DS at a wall, weird shadows began to ooze out of me." It felt strange saying all this out loud. Luckily, the alcohol seemed to be helping. "Five!? In one evening!? I doubt my heart will last... Too much excitement isn't good for me." Shinzu jumped up seconds after the comment as the sailor smashed his glass. What happened? Did a topic upset Mervyn? Not wishing to press for a answer, Shinzu allowed the conversation to shift to the topic of free drinks. "You'll pay for my drinks!? Plural?" Suddenly, Shinzu grabbed his drink, pointed the bottom at the heavens and downed its contents. "One more please!" He commanded the bar keep with a tipsy smile. The sailor seemed pretty kind after all.

#7 As Shinzu fired a pletora of questions at Mervyn he itched his head, " Well I first discovered what they call Nen about three years ago, I underwent training with a certain figure and he put me through hell for years, after that I've been training, trying to become stronger and be able to do more with it, I'm still far from where I want to be, my ability is rather incomplete " He nodded after downing the new glass of whiskey in one go, as he acidently found an ice cube in his mouth he decided to test his jaw strength. He placed the ice cube under his jaw, focussed on it and crunched it one go, ice shooting everywhere in his mouth. "An Esper? I am not sure what that is" Mervyn answered kindly wondering what Shinzu meant.
"A Nuzlocke challenge? Last time I tried that I failed, but that is because I only tried to catch water Pokemon " Mervyn joked as he put his glass back on the counter, hoping it would be filled again soon. " Shadows? Have you tried the water divination test? " Mervyn asked as he wondered what kind of type his new drinking buddy was. " Yep all drinks are on me, if you want something to eat that is fine too, I actually could do with some nachos " The sailor chuckled as he headed at the barman " Heey buddy can I have another and a giant platter of nachos to share?" The barman nodded, wondering how much his frequent guest had been drinking before he came in.

7. “Nen? What’s that?” Shinzu’s powers had only just awakened last night. By pure chance too. Clearly, he was unaware of what Nen was. These mystical powers that had awakened inside of him and the supernatural events that seemed to be drawn to him since that night made no real sense. At best, he could only rationalize them by labeling himself as an Esper and the powers as those of psychic origin. It made sense after all. Through focus, he could ‘move’ things without his hands, the multicolored man could cause people to fly away with the point of his finger and Mervyn – well, he seemed able to control people’s thoughts. At least, that’s what it seemed like.
“Woah, what are you doing?” Shinzu heard the harsh ‘crack’ after Mervyn popped an ice cube into his mouth. Was that the sound of ice or his teeth breaking? The lack of a pain-filled expression suggested it was the former. “Let me try.” Thinking it was a game or competition, Shinzu popped several ice cubes into his mouth. Upon closing it, he triggered his abilities to form a secondary mouth inside of his original and used that to crush into the ice. Naturally, it was effortless. The aura-construct sliced into the cubes with teeth so sharp that it was like biting into butter. A few more chomps and bam, the ice was powder that melted away on contact with his tongue.
“Well… You and I. We are Espers… Aren’t we?” Shinzu stroked his chin as the conversation continued. “Which generation? All Grass teams are great in most of the games because of the type advantage. An all-water team can be rough though until you get a decent fishing rod.” Shinzu snickered. He loved discussing Pokemon strategies. “Water divination? No, I don’t believe so. What is that? Is it when you use water to predict the future?” Shinzu was beginning to notice a lot of water motifs with this sailor. Was he forcing it because of his profession, or was it an original love of the sea that guided him into becoming a sailor in the first place? Either way, the teen’s eyes lit up at the mention of food. He was clearly more interested in that. “I’d feel bad if you paid for everything… Packet of peanuts to share too please barkeep! …Your cheapest variety if possible.”

#8 Merv clapped as Shinzu showed how he was able to crunch various cubes of ice with his mouth in one go, was that his nen? maybe he was an enchanter. Merv was unsure about the person he was with, he seemed fun a tiny bit silly and really into games, it was nice to have someone to talk about nen with, eventhough his teacher kind of forbid him to discuss anything about it, well unless they had a teacher and Merv was far from the level where he could teach. " Nen is our aura, which some people can use in many different ways, the test I mentioned will tell you what nen type you are and thus what kind of things you can do with it" Mervyn explained wondering if he said too much
"Played the sixth generation with the frog starter, I really should get into the new one, though I've been busy, yeah I love fishing in games, sadly the Pokemon fishing systems not really that deep." Mervyn chuckled, realizing he always made those games difficult for himself only using water Pokemon though this was fun to him. " you don't have to feel bad, just see it as me appreciating your company, half the people that want to talk to me want to hurt me, though peanuts that sounds good, thanks for being so considerate!" Mervyn said smiling, it was nice shinzu was contributing in his own way possible, it was quite cute too.
"Just wait here for a seccond " Merv said as he stood up and went outside. He saw a tree standing close, perfect for some strength training, coating his hand with a very gentle layer of nen to not hurt himself he punched the tree, making it shake like there was a big storm, catching one of the leaves that fell off Mervyn stormed back in "Barman could I have a glass of water, and is the backroom available, Could you deliver us dinner there, just go for something yummy or do you have any allergies Shinzu?" He asked, the Barman and Shinzu at the same time.

8. “So this aura thing is Nen? Is that really any different from me calling it a psychic ability?” Shinzu wondered if there were other names for it. Ki or magic perhaps? He suspected if he talked to enough people, he’d get a large enough consensus. Naturally, this wouldn’t be too difficult. Since awakening his aura – or ‘Nen’ – he realised that he’s naturally been drawn to others possessing the same ability. “Oh, so there’s types now? Intriguing… Tell me, how do I perform this test? Does your dojo instructor have to assist?”
Shinzu immediately wondered what type Mervyn was. However, he couldn’t even hazard a guess without first knowing what all the types were. Perhaps there was no sense in forcing all this psycic and Esper nonsense onto Mervyn when his master seemed to have a lot more figured out about the whole aura deal. “This dojo… Can anyone join? I feel like there’s still so much I could be learning…” Shinzu glanced down at his beer. He was a quick learner. A frighteningly quick learner given he had access to a tutorial or rulebook. Such was the great thing about gaming. Nen though – it was a mystery he felt he couldn’t solve by himself.
“The new Pokemon, or the new new Pokemon? I found they got a tad boring after X and Y. Never finished Sun and didn’t bother with Ultra Sun. That name though… Anyway. Fingers crossed for a new one for the Switch!” Shinzu seemed to perk up and took a swig of his drink as a packet of peanuts arrived. However, before he could open them, Mervyn left for some reason. “Oh?” He wondered as he summoned his aura. The packet seemed too tight for him to open with his bare hands. However, upon glancing around and lowering his hands out of sight, he surrounded the tip of the packet in his black aura and birthed a mouth from it which immediately chomped down onto the plastic. It then dissipated as Shinzu raised his arm so that it was level with the table. There was a bite mark stretched across the packet.
“Nen sure is useful.” He smirked in time to witness Mervyn’s return. “Yo. Where did you go so suddenly?” He then smiled as the sailor requested access to the backroom. “I’ll have another beer!” He chuckled while downing his second bottle. Even he couldn’t hold back the hiccup escaping from his lips at the end of that action. “Oh, and a glass of water too please…” Mervyn could likely guess that the water wasn’t ordered to quench the teen’s dehydration. Rather, he wanted a go at the water divination.

#9 As Mervyn heard Shinzu talk about how the new Pokemon weren't his cup of tea either he smiled knowing he wasn't the only one. " I Did like the little seal, bit weird it was forced to crossdress when it is a male " Mervyn joked as he shook his head " My teacher is not in this town, I only came here to earn some cash, I guess I could give you his phone number, but they say that you get your own Nen teacher after you complete the hunter exam, something I plan on taking when it finally pops again " Mervyn continued, he had been anxious for the exam for a while. he hoped he would be able to pass in one go, the hunters had so much more acces to many things in the world, and mervyn was really excited for all the freedom this offered, if Shinzu was going to do the exam too he had someone to join in with, which was always better than going alone.
As the sailor walked towards the backroom, he moved to the corner and flipped over a couch that was flipped over against a wall to save space. Flipping it back on its legs without any issue he then pulled it towards the table and sat down on it, the back room was a room used by some special guests, or by the owners friends to watch sports or anything. Mervyn pointed for Shinzu to sit next to him, as the water arived and he knew for sure no one would pop in for a while Mervyn shoved the glass of water towards Shinzu and placed the leave on it. " This is the water divination test, you focus your aura onto this glass, depending on the outcome you will find out if you are nen type is emision, enhancentment, conjuration, manipulation or transmutation. These powers are probably more complicated than one would realise " Mervyn explained wondering what would happen to Shinzu's test.

9. “Heh. The kitten was my favourite – but I liked the owl’s final evolution the most. Very Robin Hood-esque. In fact, I called mine Robin Hoot.” Shinzu chuckled at the end of his sentence. He loved his Pokemon puns. “Blast. Which town is your instructor in? Perhaps he has a cousin or a master student wandering around in Yorknew City that he could put me in touch with.” Shinzu then placed a finger on his chin. The talk about an exam touched at his curiosity. “Hunter… Exam? So like, hunting bears and stuff? I’m quite the pacifist you see… I prefer saving animals. I’d only hunt one to protect a species from danger or extinction.” There were two passions in the teen’s life. Animals and gaming.
Shinzu raised an eyebrow. The backroom seemed barren. However, Mervyn quickly dismissed that worry by revealing a hidden couch and table. “Something tells me that isn’t the cleanest couch in the world…” He said as he grabbed a roll of tissues and laid them out along his seat before sitting down. “A leaf? Is this what you went outside to get?” Shinzu took a swig of his beer. Whether it helped his concentration or not, he knew he’d need it to believe Merv’s explanation. “Well, let’s give this a try.”
Too curious to back out now, Shinzu placed both hands on the glass and focused intently on the leaf. Charging up his aura, Shinzu slowly released it and pumped it into the water of the glass and the leaf. He did this for a few seconds, until finally, shutting off his flow of aura and sighing. “Nothing happened.” He mumbled while tipping the glass from side to side. The contents of the glass hadn’t changed and neither had the leaf. The water’s colour or consistency hadn’t changed either. The only other thing he could think of was… “Ah! It tastes like Pepsi! Or maybe Coca-Cola? No wait... Sprite?” Shinzu dipped his pinky into the water and tested a droplet. Had the waiter made a mistake and given the duo the wrong beverage? There were no bubbles floating around in the liquid to suggest so. It just looked like normal water. So where had the taste come from? Did his powers also involve changing the taste of liquids?
"Wait a minute..." Shinzu shook his head as the bead of liquid on his index finger dried. Upon touching it with his thumb, he noticed his finger was sticky. This really was soda. "Curse it." He grumbled. In a fit of frustration, his aura instinctively flared and with that, the level of liquid in the container began to rise. "Woah - I'm a infinite soda generator now?"

#10. The sailor smiled as his drinking buddy mentioned how his favourite was the kitten, " I must admit, I did really like the kitten but a boxer thats not the fighting type was a bit weird to me, I don't really use fire types, though you might have guessed that " Mervyn exclaimed smiling a little, it was quite exciting to see Shinzu try this test, it was the first time he'd see someone else do it, and he hoped it would work for him to, otherwise it would be quite emberassing for him. Carefully watching while focussing his aura on his eyes, thanks to this he could see aura, and could see how Shinzu did actually release quite an amount of aura on the glass.
As nothing happened Mervyn scratched his head, but when Shinzu mentioned it being like a fizzy pop it came to him he was probably a transmuter, " If someone changes the taste of the water they are a transmuter, meaning they can change the properties of their aura into something else" Mervyn mentioned as he noticed how the water started overflowing, out of the glass and onto the table, it was like a mini fountain, quickly focussing his aura on his eyes merv noticed how now Shinzu was a bit relaxed he actually increased the volume of the water in the glass, thus being an enhancer, This was a weird case, which of the two was the man infront of him.
"When someone increases the volume of what's inside the glass, they are what is called an enhancer, I am not sure which of the two you are, with the amount of water that you enhanced I might say the latter, but indeed the water does taste sweet, Mervyn mentioned as he dipped his finger in for a taste. " A soda generator, you can do a lot of things with nen my friend, a lot of things " Merv chuckled. " when you first began putting your aura into your hands did you think of fizzy drinks? " mervyn asked with a kind of confused look on his face

10. “Well, he’s more a wrestler than a boxer… But you’re right. I have no idea where the Dark typing came from.” Shinzu chuckled. Sun and Moon certainly were weird generations. “I was kinda thirsty and craving some soda…” Shinzu stroked his chin. A Transmuter made sense considering his powers. Then again, the mention of Enhancer wasn’t too surprising either. It made sense that subconsciously, he may have been using his Enhancer abilities to power up his Nen.
Smiling, he released the valve on his aura and pumped more into the glass. Slowly, the level of liquid in the glass began to rise again. If Mervyn was telling the truth, then his primary power was the ability to enhance stuff. Could he think of ways to better utilize this? Perhaps to further increase his jaw strength? He pondered before taking his hands off the glass and focusing on Mervyn. “Say – what about you buddy? What’s your Nen type?” He snickered while sliding the glass over to the sailor. Having shared this much about himself, it would only be common courtesy to do the same.
