18. “W-Woah, are you okay? Normally I have trouble swatting flies…” Shinzu analysed what had just happened. Somehow, his aura had enhanced his punch with enough force to knock Merv onto the couch. Shinzu had assumed aura was a form of telepathy. A way to conjure constructs either to attack or to move other objects around. However, it seemed more than that. Somehow, through focus alone, it seemed capable of bolstering offence and defence too.
“I-I’m going to go all out.” He said while swallowing. “Be careful…” He explained as he pulled back his fist. He was still nervous and unwilling to hurt Merv. Due to that, despite his decent punching form, his fist travelled slowly due to hesitation and meekness. Still, as the aura swirled around his fist like a black vortex, Merv could likely tell that there was a considerable amount of power behind the blow thanks to Nen.

#9 As the attack was slowly coming towards Mervyn in the form of a punch, the sailor gathered his aura at one point bolstering his defense tremendously, as the swirling vortex of nen was about to clash with Mervyns arm which he was going to use to block it, the sailor felt tremendous nerves, he was wondering why he had always been keen on throwing himself in danger and that this might not be the best option right now.
As the fist landed against Mervyn his arm a small sound was heard, the force of 2 auras clashing negated each other, there was a bit of a shock shot through both their bodies from the collision of the attack. " See, your first attack that was much weaker did more damage than one guarded against, nen is a precious but dangerous thing that should be used careful, but mostly you should be careful facing against it" Mervyn exclaimed, feeling like he was talking way too much, he also felt quite fearful on how quickly this man was understanding everything, if he put his back in it Shinzu had tremendous potential.

19. Shinzu grit his teeth. This was different to before. Whereas before it felt like he was punching a soft sponge he could easily knock over, this time, it was like punching an immoveable brick wall. As he felt the resistance, he put more of his body weight into the punch by leaning forwards. Sadly – although mercifully for Merv – it was impossible. He couldn’t pierce through Merv aura ‘armour’. Like opposite ends of a magnet, the backlash repelled the punch.
As Shinzu’s fist was knocked backwards, he was forced to take a step back too in order to balance his body weight. Once things calmed down, he brought his fist up to eye-level to inspect it. His own aura appeared to have protected him. Despite that, he could still feel his bones rattling. His aura appeared to allow him to hit far harder than a human should be capable of hitting. This made Nen dangerous. Very dangerous. “Say… Are there villains who use Nen for evil?”

#10. Mervyn took a deep breath still recovering from the clash with Shinzu earlier, quickly he grabbed his drink and poured down all of the whiskey left in the cup, ready to pour another one. " Are you sure you are a rookie to nen " Mervyn joked as he sat down again and put his feet up on the table " Enough practice for today don't you think?" Mervyn asked showing his lazy side, even though he was a hard worker that didn't really take a lot of time to relax, the moments he relaxed he'd relax hardcore. Kind of like all things Mervyn did, if he did them he did them in insane weird fashion.
The atmosphere in the room turned grim fast as the sailor was asked if there were people who used Nen for evil, for a second he wondered if Shinzu was going to consider doing this but he realized that the boy in front of him wasn't the type to be a villain. " Sadly son, there are those who use it for their own benefit and evil deeds, things powers like these shouldn't be used for" Mervyn exclaimed as he got quite wound up even thinking about it. " Not a lot of people find their way to nen, it's not a power easily acquirable for those who want to use it for bad, but yes it happens, there is many dangerous people around" Mervyn continued kind of turning this conversation into a rant and lesson in one.

20. “Yes… I only awakened my aura a few days ago. Maybe it’s like video games. I’m great at strategy and roleplaying games, but terrible at first-person shooters. I imagine this is similar after completely failing at your eye thing.” Shinzu reached for his bottle and took another swig of alcohol. While doing so, he flared his aura once more. Whereas before it took some degree of focus to evenly distribute it around his body, this time, he managed to completely surround his outline in a dark shadow in a split second. However, as Merv proclaimed that the lessons were over, Shinzu allowed his aura to dissipate and then relaxed on the sofa. “Tiring…” He whispered as he downed the rest of his drink. Having not drank for a while, it had become warm and unpleasant. Still, no sense in wasting something that’s free. “I… Met a dangerous guy before. He pointed his finger at innocent people and they’d go flying. I didn’t realise it was Nen at the time… I thought it was telepathy. You think maybe I can learn more about his power with that Gyo thingy of yours? I'm guessing he was doing something that I couldn't see at the time.”

Learning Ren level 2:
#1.
Mervyn couldn't but chuckle as his drinking partner mentioned that Nen was like videogames, " Thats one way to look at it, sadly you ain't able to re-spawn when using nen, that be something pretty cool to be honest" The sailor joked as he glared over a menu he found laying around. From the corner of his eye he saw how Shinzu was focussing on his aura, even when drinking he was training, Something that Mervyn often caught himself doing as well. The sailor quickly tried to release a large amount of aura and shot it into his eyes as he was trying to find out what Shinzu was doing.
As shinzu mentioned a man imitating a pistol with his fingers using telepathy or nen to knock people away Mervyn scratched his head, he wasn't sure whether that was something amazing or not. " Well I think you could find more about his power if you use gyo, but I'd be careful around people like that, not a good plan to fight someone with a better sense of an ability than you " Mervyn exclaimed, trying his best to not sound like he was scolding the young boy in front him. " Oh by the way, I suck at first person shooter games myself, I only really play fighting games" Mervyn chuckled feeling kind of bad for only focusing on one type of game.

Ren Lvl. 3:
1. “R-Respawning? Is such a crazy thing possible with Nen?” Shinzu glanced down at his arms and focused on his aura. It seemed to surround his palms like a twister of energy. Where the hell did this control and output come from? It was like randomly gaining a ‘level up’ and placing a stat point in stamina or energy. Pulling upon it, the aura spiked in random directions he ordered it to.
Shinzu knew that with a little more focus, he could probably command the spikes to shift into tendrils – a Nen construct he had a lot of experience with forming. However, as he spotted Merv staring at him, he ended up becoming a little shy. Suddenly, his aura flickered and stopped obeying his commands. It was no longer as obedient as it was before and felt cumbersome.
“I don’t know if he was better than me… I managed to one up him and steal his watch.” Shinzu smiled as he commanded his aura to form a single tentacle which lashed out and dove into his coat pocket. After a few moments, he transmuted a mouth on the tendril which bit onto the watch and pulled it out to display to Merv. “Fighting games eh? Something tells me I’ll probably beat you in Guilty Gear.”

#2 " Yes son, a lot can be done with nen, some abilities are more showy than others, for example you'd not know my ability activated unless it's too late, but it is a kinda lame ability, it be kinda cool swinging around a giant anchor or something" The sailor joked as he wondered how that would work, as a manipulator he'd be quite well versed in conjuration thus could do some pretty cool things with it, maybe he should actually put some effort in conjuring himself a weapon as fist fighting wasn't the coolest thing yet.
The downside on a not flashy ability is that it's training is also not that flashy, all the sailor can do to increase the duration or strength of his nen is increase the output of his nen, the control of his ten and ren. There was a bit of focus and being able to handle more pain than the one he was fighting, but that was all part of why he chose the power. He wasn't a fan of fights with out no meaning, and this ability could stop those and make sure that fights would atleast damage his opponents as much as it damaged him, even if he didn't attack himself. The sailor smirked over his cleverness, while he he unleashed his ren in short interfalls wondering if Shinzu would even notice.
" Guilty gear huh? ain't that by the same developpers as something blue? " Mervyn asked itching his head trying to remember the name of the game. The sailor was quite curious to Shinzu his training and what he was doing while the two were chatting, maybe he should ask him to a friendly match for fun.

2. “An anchor?” Shinzu blinked. “Sure – that would suit your sailor motif… But surely a hammer or an axe would be more practical?” Then again, was his ability that practical? Shinzu tapped both of his index fingers together and focused his aura into the tips. Slowly, he pulled his fingers apart to create a long string of thin Nen. The further apart he pulled, the thinner it got.
By the time the ‘string’ of Nen was like a thread, it felt very frail and fragile. He could of course pump more Nen into the construct to strengthen it, but that felt like cheating. He wanted to learn how to increase the output and range of his Nen. The best way to do that in his mind, was to learn ways of more efficiently utilising his Nen.
“BlazBlue. I like Guilty Gear a little more though because the controller talks to you while you play.” Shinzu chuckled to himself while remembering the heart attack he almost received while thinking back to the first time he played. In the meantime, being so focused on his own Ren training, he had failed to notice what Merv was doing. Simply, he was too preoccupied with extending his Nen string.

" hmm an axe would be more practical, though an anchor could trap people, and yup I gotta work on my image, if a sailor rescues you with an axe he looks like a babarian, I am a sailor afterall not a viking " Mervyn chuckled as he wondered how he could make an weapon from nen. it would require some conjuration, which according to many old lore books was easy for manipulators, but apparently in this world he had a hard time focussing on his conjurative ways, it was like something special was in the way. it was really weird tbh.
" Oh yeah when the controller yells stuff I thought I was going to be attacked from behind " The sailor joked as he relaxed focussing his nen into his arm and letting it go, his speed on how quick he was was just too slow for now. it didn't help him at all, and this really frustrated him a lot. He wanted to see if he could make an anchor that sapped strength from his enemy's. " So shinzuu, what would you say an anchor should do? does it sapping anothers nen or energy sound good? I don't like killing, I just wanna stop fights as soon as possible " mervyn mentioned.

3. “If you want to trap people, maybe just the chain? I don’t know. You seem like you hit the gym a lot more than I do, but an anchor just seems cumbersome and awkward to carry.” As the Nen string between Shinzu’s two fingers thinned to extreme levels, he continued slowly pulling apart his fingers while extending the thread by pouring more aura into it.
By the time his two index fingers were roughly shoulder width apart, Shinzu could feel that the string was very fragile and ready to snap at a moments notice. Despite the lack of Gyo, he knew this fact all too well. Somehow, he could ‘feel’ it out or perhaps ‘sense’ was a better word. All of this training seemed to be helping him be more in tune with his aura.
“You might kill someone by sapping too much of their strength… Maybe your anchor shouldn’t do that.” Shinzu knew the feeling. It took all of his mental focus to keep the Nen thread from breaking apart. He wasn’t using much aura, but it was just the simple act of maintaining it that felt incredibly draining. “Maybe… The anchor could pop up from the floor and drag people into the ground? They can’t fight if they are buried from the neck down. Maybe it could even weigh people down to stop them from moving.”

#4 " Hmm, yeah I don't want to kill people, but trapping them, if the anchor is heavy for me they might not even be able to lift it, which means I won. But that might kill people, so not a good idea. I like using my fists really, not much of a weapon man but I never have any idea how to make this all work with just my fists " The sailor exclaime das he scratched his head. He was rather confused on finding his powers, like his first nen idea was pretty cool, but he didn't know what else would fit him.
" My other idea was to use my nen to conjure dolphins, or sharks or octopi to snare someone while I do the fighting, my first power I'm pretty proud off, Why don't we test it out" The sailor smiled as he quickly activated his hatsu and stood up to pat Shinzy on the shoulder " What happens now is you punch me, or use your nen on me, not too hard, be carefull" The sailor warned, not wanting to hurt Shinzy but still wanting to demonstrate his powers, the guys creativity could help him in coming up with new ideas.
